Tropical Landscape in broad strokes

Day to Night is 36x48" vibrant impressionistic painting of a tropical scene. I am leaving in the morning for a trip to St. Kitts with some artist friends. There will be eight women on this plein air painting trip and I am so excited!! I started this painting to get me into the island life. Some of the artists are from Charleston and I am thrilled to be working along side a nice diverse group of artists who all have different styles. I will keep you posted on the trip if I have cell phone coverage. I hear it is spotty. We also have a day trip to Nevis planned. ALthough I have traveled the West Indies and Caribean pretty extensively, I have not been to either of these islands. Of course I will bring my camera....

Beach scene painting from photo

The photo I took while photographing a family portrait lead to this painting. I did use a bit of creative license because I wanted the stick fence to show, even though form this angle, its more perpendicular and slightly hidden on the right side. It is 24x24" gallery wrap and ready to hang.

Beach themed paintings have so many possibilities

Since I have been in a highly enhanced creative state last month, I dream of paintings to produce. In my mind, I saw the sea and tide flowing around the pilings of a pier. I also imagined a pink sunrise with reflections. "Under the Pier" is 36x36". Working from a vision in my mind is not the best way to paint because you have to rely on what you think it would look like rather than using reference photos.

Tropical Landscape Painting from island travels

"Tropical Shore" is 48x24" gallery wrap. I had some images in my head of my travels in years past in various tropical islands. I did some chalk sketches first and then just started with a light weight background coloring and washes, added more paints and tints, some glazes with lighter colors and worked with quick brush strokes. Working with high energy and quickly really gives a more abstract feeling. This has become a favorite and the size lends itself to an over the bed decor. I kept the color subdued. linda-olsen.pixels.com for additional information.

Lately, I have had an opportunity to paint half days all week and I feel that I am reaching some good techniques by trial and error. Its exhausting and my back hurts at the end of the day but I am accomplishing a lot and still passionate about my craft.

Tropical Landscape

Paradise Lagoon is 48x30" gallery wrap and was an older work that I decided to update. As an artist, there are times where I feel that it is complete but on further inspection, new inspiration occurs.

For sailing enthusiasts

Growing up on the coast of California with my sailing family, I have very fond memories of all the races we crewed on. The excitement of keeping the sails competitive, using every wind opportunity, the salt air and warm breeze (sometimes cold winds). This abstract palette knife painting called "Regatta at Sunset" is 24x48".
