Sea Creature Paintings for Beach decor

“Crab Scurry” is 24x24x1.5″ gallery wrap painting. I wanted to keep the lively brush strokes and abstract feeling. Dry brush over black gesso with heavy palette knife details.

New Palette for Beach paintings inspired by sunset pastels

I have been enjoying a new palette for my beach paintings. The lavenders, pinks and peaches remind me of our biweekly beach outtings with friends. I organized a weekly sunset gathering on our beautiful beaches. No one in the large group can make it every week but try when we can. We all bring chairs and libations and even though the sun sets behind the trees and houses, there is usually a beautiful pink glow to the evening. Living on the East Coast is different than if you can actually see the sun set in the WEST. Growing up in California, it was a ritual to watch for a green flash. Recently I volunteered to help raise money for the lifeguards so two of the paintings have lifeguard chairs. A part donation when sold.

Painting Lesson with Palette Knife

This is a DYptic painting I have been working on for a couple weeks of an ocean scene. I am actually not completely finished but wanted to share my progress and possibly give a little tutorial for my painting students. SInce each panel is 30x40", its actually more difficult because of studio space and with matching the two panels for a nice transition. Palette Knife takes a lot of paint which gets quite expensive so I start with the modeling paste to give more 3-dimensionality. AT first I thought the peach sky and sand was too much color but there are a lot of vibrant dabs of color throughout so now I am re assessing. Opinions?
