A larger painting of Island Monkeys completed

Continuing with my recent passion for these darling green monkeys, I painted a larger fantasy. While in Nevis and St. Kitts, the monkeys were quite skittish and constantly moved so I made up this scene from various photos.
“Three Green Monkeys” is 36×36″ gallery canvas. I wanted to keep this impressionistic in styling.

New tropical paradise painting completed

"Island Bungalow" 12 x36x2" has finally been completed. Its been in the works for two months and has been changed a lot. The surfboard was the latest addition and think it was an important feature. The painting is a fantasy about a far away island home. I would like to be there right now!!!

Two large beach and surf paintings completed

I had this idea in the middle of the night a few weeks ago of imbedding words into an abstract painting of the beach so have finally finished the two paintings. They are 40x30" gallery wraps and are for sale. I did a lot of texture and antique glazes to create the mood that I was looking for. What do you think? I would like to do at least one more but the vision has not yet come.

Island Palms ~ a series of paintings

For a couple of months I have been working on this series of Island Palms. Each gallery wrap painting is 15x30 and done in Acrylics. I think that they would really lend a tropical flair to a room and are small enough to easily ship. Inquire about these very affordable originals. They give me a happy feeling!

More altered photographs form Key West

I am intrigued by all the possibilities for creating artwork form original photographs. Some are purists when it comes to photography but I like to explore different possibilities. Sometimes when I am shooting, I have emotional reactions and enhancing a photograph to get closer to that emotion is another part of the creative process. Don't be afraid to play and explore.

Altered photographs from Key West trip

After returning from a week in Key West, we were slammed with work and its been quite stressful. So I decided to take the weekend off to do digital artwork with some of my images from the trip. Enhancing a photograph takes a lot of decisions as to what effect each image should render and then going through tedious but exciting steps to arrive at a final piece of art. SOMetimes I redo several effects over and over until I get the feeling I wanted. There are many painting programs besides Photoshop like Painter, Corel Painter X, Impressions, and Photoshop actions. I usually use several of the programs to get the final result. I do think that several would make lovely prints on metallic papers or canvases. Which ones are you intrigued by??

Key West destination in November

Nelson and I just returned from photographing a destination wedding in Key West, Florida. We drove down and stayed six days in this paradise location. Since we live in Neptune Beach, we felt like Key West was Neptune Beach on steroids! The historical buildings with amazing history was fascinating. A few of the guests were our friends so when not shooting for the bride and groom, we had friends to hang with and explore the city. As a photographer, it was exhilerating and I ended up with 1500 images to go through when I returned. If you want to see some of the wedding shots, go to my photo blog: lindaolsen.wordpress.com

Wave and Island Painting

"Sunset Curl was painted several years ago from a commission request but the sale fell through. Recently I revisited it and made several tweaks which really made the painting more vibrant. It is 40x40" with a wide gallery wrap where the edges are painted an blueish black. 40 x 40 is a great size for most all rooms and being vibrant, would add a cheerful splash of color to a wall.

Happy Memorial Day!! Afterglow of a day at Cumberland Island

Yesterday, we were fortunate to be able to take a trip by boat to Cumberland Island with some good friends. It was a ten hour trip filled with dolphins, manatees, wild horses and birds, old ruins from historic mansions, and dunes along the natural preserve. This island is a protected treasure and very primitive. Most people who visit the island via a ferry from St. Marys and must rely on exploring by foot. We will return I am sure.
