Large Mermaid Painting completed for show in West Indies

I am honored to be part of an art show at Christophe Harbor in St. Kitts this fall. The Dale Gallery is right in the new upscale yacht marina. Since shipping paintings are very pricey, especially for large paintings, I did this mermaid on a flat prepared canvas and will roll it for shipment. The gallery will help by getting it framed and stretched there.
“Christophe Siren” is 36×48″

Two new Whimsical Mermaids completed

A decade ago, I did a few mermaids that were more whimsical than the other mermaid studies. See the image with five older mermaids. After returning from the West Indies, I continued in that early inspiration of letting my brush lead me into more colorful and impressionistic strokes. The top image is a new original called "Ginger Dreams" which is 30x40". The second painting is called "Harmony". 30x40" gallery wrap.

Mermaid Painting started a year ago finally completed

Sometimes paintings take longer than expected. I actually thought I was completed last year but then re-evaluated the painting and decided to repaint many areas. Before she was looking at the viewers but I didnt like her blank expression. I wanted her to look concerned as she tried to untangle herself from the seaweed.

Mermaid caught in a swirl of current

With all 0f the underwater paintings being created inmy painting studio, I also have been working on a sea maiden since before Halloween. I finally finished "Swirling Water" which is 30x40". Mermaids take a lot longer than my ocean paintings because of the more realistic (expressionistically ) painted. Every brush stroke changes a look especially in the face. Its like her soul and personality emerges. Since mermaids are fantasy, I like the process of inventing the scene. I dont force the look but keep working until I am happy. It was finished just in time for a big show at the Beaches Historical Museum. Opening is Friday evening.

Canvas Giclee a good affordable choice

A customer feel in love with one of my mermaid paintings but felt that she could not afford the large original plus the original was too large for the space she intended. SO I am making a canvas giclee smaller 12x36". The original is 20x60". I use only top fine art printers and give them the original to match as reference. Photographing your art properly is very important in this process. Making sure the proportions are spot on and that all of the edge beyond the edge of the canvas is removed. As a professional photographer, I own some very good cameras so am able to get a very high resolution image file that is close to 100 MB.

Finally completed mermaid painting after 5 years

"Tidepool" was started 5 years ago and I thought it was complete but revisited it,took it out of storage, put a clear gesso over it and worked for an additional 4 days. Since it is 36x60", which is quite large, its a much more physical experience. I have to keep stepping back to anaylize and make adjustments. Finally I feel that it is done. Hope you enjoy this. She looks as if she is somewhat surprised to be seen while lounging in the seashore tidal pools.

A Mermaid Painting with Pinks

"Lighthouse at Dusk" is 30x48" and acrylic, gouche, metallics , gesso on Canvas. I started with tinted pink/white gesso on white canvas. My drawing is with hard charcoal and acrylic paints. Many layers of tints and light layers of paint give a lumionus effect but what I found most interesting is that when placed in a room with incondescent lights, the entire painting appears warm and peachy. See last image which was shot under lights.
