Octopus Painting with metallic Golds

"Octopus Tangle" is 16x40" and just completed. It started out with a grey octopus with cobalt blue water background. It went through many revisions and stages since I made up the image and how the eight legs gracefully moving through the water. Small fish swim around the legs. This expressionistic painting has different colored metallic touches here and there and all of the water has 6 layers of color and then metallic golden bronze before adding the final tinted varnish.

Underwater Fun

"Octopus Arms" is a new fun painting with many layers of glazes, metallics and expressionistic details. I spent over two days on the watery background with drips and putting paint on and then manipulating the effect of water. Originally I was going to add blue glazes to the rusty golden backdrop but then liked the color mixes with the blues and greens of the octopus. It reminded me of copper patina. 24x48" gallery wrap.

This week’s small paintings

This week while I had some moments free from my computer and camera, I finished up on several small paintings with a sealife theme. The center one is 8x8", the blue seahorse is 5x5" and the Octopus Salsa painting is 20x16".

New mermaid painting with octopus

"Entangled" is 36x48 gallery wrap just completed. Its been hard to come up with a title because the expression on this siren's face is that of surprise (like she was caught dancing with the octopus) but I thought "Entangled" was a better title since it can have many meanings. Her face changed many times as I worked on her for weeks and at one point she was looking off to the right but I wanted her expression to be more mysterious. Sometimes in life, we are pulled in every direction with the responsibilities of family and work..we tend to smile through the chaos of daily life as the fish (or other distractions) saunter by. The size of this painting is fairly large so will go nicely in a living room, or dining area.

Octopus Salsa

Octopus Salsa has been in the works for a few months and has taken on many changes. Being a smaller painting, 20x16, it was more difficult to get the details with a palette knife so has change colorings several times. You can see the layers in the background areas the most.
