Sea Turtle painting with abstract touches

Since you may be following my painting blog, you may have noticed a new technique I have been exploring with my jellyfish series. I started this painting in the same way and after two days of work on the water background (which started out with reds and rust colors), I was able to sketch and paint in the sea turtle. I find that the background lends more interest and details, semi abstract elements. "Sea Turtle Tutti" is 40x16"

Large mermaid tryptic painting completed

"Bella Donna" is three panels of 24x48" gallery wrap canvases that would hang an inch from each other and cover 75x48" space. I wanted to portray an underwater siren with the lighting I have seen while diving. The reflection on the bottom of the sandy bottom reflect up onto the mermaid and sea creatures. I started with black canvases and painted the ocean water with teal and blue sheer metallic paints so its quite a dark painting...just like it would be under the sea.

Display with tiny original paintings

My little 6x6" gallery wraps were a hit at the art show yesterday. They sell for 65.00 and are quite nice for adding some cheerful color and fun to a wall or shelf. I have a few left if anyone is interested in owning some small originals. I also have little sea turtles, shells, seagulls and other beach related paintings.

A Baby Sea Turtle makes a dash to the Tide

"Dash to the Tides" is 18x36 gallery wrap canvas and has a lot of layered paint and texture. The waves have some plaster underneath the paint to actually have some 3-d effects. This painitng will be displayed this month at Players by the Sea theater in Jacksonville Beach.

Enter a baby sea turtle making his way to the tide

Basically, the same techniques as the previous painting but more attention was paid to the cool blues to lighter greens gradient in the surf. I wanted the jewel tones to be more obvious and the tiny little turtle dashing to the surf for the first time. This painting is 18x36.
