Two paintings painted from trip photos from California

When I returned from an 18 day trip in California visiting family and taking a wonderful road trip with my sister…We stopped to rest in a little town south of Big Sur called Cambria. A small motor lodge on the ocean was so great and I had the joy of watching the sun go down in the Pacific. Because California was my home for half of my life, the trip was familiar. Since I live on a small island peninsula in Florida, the sun doesnt set in the ocean so this was a treat. “Cambria Rocks” and “Cambia Sunset” are both 30×40″ gallery wraps.

Bodysurfing Series: Final painting completed for a larger wall

While body surfing a couple weeks ago, I was floating on the crest of some rolling waves and the colors and calmness came into my head. I said to my friend “I am going to paint this!”
I went home and painted until late that night and the next week. I started with the 36×36″ painting and then decided to paint a similar painting in 24×36″. When it was done and I was looking at them side by side, I noticed that they almost looked like one painting. The next days, I worked on a third 24×36″. These could be purchased separately or all three. This impressonistic study makes me recall the feeling I had while floating.

Beach Tide expressions with metallic golds

Two new paintings with expressionistic stylings. I like the brushy strokes with touches of metallic gold. Of course, metallic colors do not show well in photography but in a room, look stunning. The long skinny one is 16×40″ and called “lone Star”. The larger one with the sanderlings running from the tide is 36×36″. Both are heavy gallery wraps ready for hanging.

Tropical Landscape in broad strokes

Day to Night is 36x48" vibrant impressionistic painting of a tropical scene. I am leaving in the morning for a trip to St. Kitts with some artist friends. There will be eight women on this plein air painting trip and I am so excited!! I started this painting to get me into the island life. Some of the artists are from Charleston and I am thrilled to be working along side a nice diverse group of artists who all have different styles. I will keep you posted on the trip if I have cell phone coverage. I hear it is spotty. We also have a day trip to Nevis planned. ALthough I have traveled the West Indies and Caribean pretty extensively, I have not been to either of these islands. Of course I will bring my camera....

Altered photographs of Beach Scenes

I love shooting but I also love the creative opportunities allowed in post production. Always start with a good high res photo and then add grunge textures and tints to some areas. I feel that this gives another emotion and interest. Just sold two canvases 20x30" of shell and golden dune. I can make acrylic, metal and canvas prints any size.

Series of Rays and edge of tide continues

I started the manta and sting ray collection late this summer and it is continuing with new challenges. The largest one yet is this new one of one ray gliding over the sand in the shallows of the tide. First, I paint the sandy bottom, then add shells and fish and rays with a cool blue shadows. Then I make the refraction highlights on the sand and under the ray. The last part is the reflection of the sky hitting the top of the water with highlights. "Ray Close to Shore" is 36x48". "Starfish Under Shallows" and "Starfish Fishing" are both 24x24".

Beach themed paintings have so many possibilities

Since I have been in a highly enhanced creative state last month, I dream of paintings to produce. In my mind, I saw the sea and tide flowing around the pilings of a pier. I also imagined a pink sunrise with reflections. "Under the Pier" is 36x36". Working from a vision in my mind is not the best way to paint because you have to rely on what you think it would look like rather than using reference photos.

Paradise Lagoon is 48x30" gallery wrap and was an older work that I decided to update. As an artist, there are times where I feel that it is complete but on further inspection, new inspiration occurs.
