New Palette for Beach paintings inspired by sunset pastels

I have been enjoying a new palette for my beach paintings. The lavenders, pinks and peaches remind me of our biweekly beach outtings with friends. I organized a weekly sunset gathering on our beautiful beaches. No one in the large group can make it every week but try when we can. We all bring chairs and libations and even though the sun sets behind the trees and houses, there is usually a beautiful pink glow to the evening. Living on the East Coast is different than if you can actually see the sun set in the WEST. Growing up in California, it was a ritual to watch for a green flash. Recently I volunteered to help raise money for the lifeguards so two of the paintings have lifeguard chairs. A part donation when sold.

Series of tide and baby sea turtle paintings ready for show

For two weeks I have been working on these abstract expressions of the ocean tides with baby sea turtles running for the tide. Much of the initial process involved outside painting with drips and runs with some layers being scrubbed off. After painting the canvas with flexible white plaster, I ran paint and water, drips manipulated by turning the canvas in different directions, adding and rubbing off some paint layers and then finally adding brush work, metallic touches and splatters of antique umber stain mixed with glazing mediums. These range in size from 14x14" to 24x48". The tall skinny ones are 16x40". Inquire for prices as these are for sale.

New wave painting for 2016!!

Since the holiday season, I have been obsessed with painting water...and also very large canvases.I found that its a lot more physical painting large. I wear my back brace but still find that I need to limit how many hours in a day I can paint without relying on a heating pad at night. The 60x48" gallery wrap with metallic gold highlights is called "Golden Reflections".

Amongst the busy holiday season, I was able to spend many days regrouping and finding peace in painting. Somehow it grounds me and makes me very happy to have the solitude to paint. I put music on and study, think, and become creative. You can find more information on my website on sizes, names and prices. linda-olsen.artistwebsites.com
